How to Choose a V2EX App for iPhone and iPad
Last updated: November 2, 2026
The App Store has more than a dozen third-party V2EX apps. In one you open every day, practical details matter: legible text, responsive image viewing, native iOS controls, help with long threads, fast reply alerts, and ongoing maintenance.
We build VVAE. Below is how it handles each area, followed by a feature and pricing table of V2EX apps on the App Store.
Contents
Reading feeds and long threads
- Fast scrolling. Native text scrolls without lag, even in threads with hundreds of replies. Clear type and comfortable line spacing suit long reads.
- Distinct post formatting. Code, quotes, tables, and follow-ups from the original poster each have their own look. Long posts stay clear.
- Refreshes keep your place. The feed updates without shifting your reading spot.
- Category switching. Swipe across Home categories and the page follows your finger, so you can flip through feeds quickly.
Images that work like Photos
- Tap to open, drag to close. Tap an image to expand it from its spot in the post. Drag down to put it back in place.
- Zoom and paging. Double-tap or pinch to zoom, and swipe between images in the same reply. Long images open in full so you can scroll through the whole image.
- Long-press actions. Hold any image to save it to Photos, copy it, or share it.
- Text stays in place. Images appear quickly, and the text on screen doesn’t jump as they load.
Liquid Glass and system controls
- iOS 26 Liquid Glass. The tab bar and reply bar use Liquid Glass, matching iOS system appearance and motion.
- Swipe navigation. Swipe back or switch views and the screen tracks your touch.
- Three columns on iPad. View the sidebar, topic list, and open topic side by side, or switch to two columns or full screen. See Three Columns on iPad.
- Themes and app icons. Pick from multiple themes, accent colors, and app icons.
AI assistant for long threads
VVAE has included a built-in AI assistant since its first version. Open it in any topic and start with one tap.
- Summarize Thread. The assistant reads every reply and summarizes the main viewpoints and disagreements.
- Rank Answers. In “what do you use?” threads, it tallies replies into a ranked list. If a thread doesn’t fit ranking, it gives a summary instead.
- Color-coded answers. Key points use different colors so you can scan the outline quickly.
- Follow-up questions. Ask a follow-up and the assistant searches replies, related topics, and web pages for the answer.
- Search chat. Ask what people on V2EX think about a subject without finding a topic first. Answers link back to the original topics.
- Bring your own provider. Connect OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Ollama Cloud, V2EX’s own AI, other providers, or any OpenAI-compatible service with your own API key. Requests go directly to your provider and don’t pass through our servers.
Encrypted, near real-time push
- Near real-time alerts. When someone replies to you, mentions you, thanks you, or favorites your post, the notification reaches your iPhone and iPad within moments.
- End-to-end encryption. Your notifications are end-to-end encrypted. Our servers forward ciphertext and can’t read them.
- One-command self-hosted setup. VVAE gives you a single command to run on a NAS, VPS, or always-on computer. Once set up, it runs with little upkeep.
- Message-style notifications. Each alert shows who replied, their avatar, and what they wrote. See the push notifications guide for setup steps.
Posting and image hosting
- Post preview. Write in V2EX’s default syntax or Markdown and preview the topic before publishing.
- Automatic drafts. VVAE saves drafts as you type. Close the app anytime and your draft is still there when you return.
- AI proofreading. AI fixes typos, punctuation, and formatting without changing your words.
- Built-in image hosting. Upload images with no account required, keeping as much quality as the host allows.
- Upload history. Every uploaded image stays in your history. Copy its link again or delete it from the host at any time.
You can also switch between multiple V2EX accounts in one tap. VVAE claims the daily sign-in reward automatically, and includes a Today’s Hot Topics widget for the Home Screen and Lock Screen.
Built and maintained by a company
Vast Logic develops and maintains VVAE. Our engineers have spent years building large-scale apps. Each app’s App Store page lists its Seller as either a company or an individual, which we also include in the table below.
Pricing
Reading is free. You can browse Home, nodes, search, and topics without paying. Signed-in features, the AI assistant, and push notifications require VVAE Premium, available as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Subscriptions pay for ongoing updates as V2EX changes and new iOS versions and devices ship. See Pricing for details.

Compiled from each app’s App Store page (description, subtitle, and version history), checked on November 2, 2026. ✓ means the developer lists the feature on the App Store page; — means it isn’t listed there, not that it’s missing. “Developer” follows the Seller on the App Store page: a company name counts as Company, a personal name as Individual. “iPad layout” reflects whether the App Store page shows iPad screenshots. Features and prices may have changed since then; check the App Store for current details. If you spot a mistake, please email us.
